The Call to Vote

I remember when we were little (you know, as in youngsters) our favorite jokes were the "Little Moron Jokes". They always started out "why did the Little Moron" do what ever it was little morons might do. I'm not sure they'd be politically correct these days, but they were awfully funny back then. You know, why did the little moron throw the clock out the window? He wanted to see time fly. Well, it doesn't seem to take even that visual aid for me anymore. It's now January 14th and we're nearly into the middle of the first month of the New Year. Wasn't it just Christmas? I called to make our Doctor's appointments this morning and Mac wanted to know why, he says he isn't sick, so why does he need to see the doctor? I reminded him he needed his blood work done for the Lipitor he takes plus it's been six months and he just needs to go. He's worse than a five year old when it comes to making excuses as to why he doesn't need to go to the doctor. I think he really believes that old "what I don't know won't kill me" line that even I once held onto. I like to check in with my Doctor so that he can reassure me that my health is on a steady course. I'd hate to get on a downhill sled, racing out of control. It's something that every person in this great Nation should be able to do. They should be able to afford to see their doctor, take their meds and not worry about how they are going to be able to feed and clothe themselves and their families. Especially children and the elderly. I've been listening to all that the candidates who are running for President have to say and it seems that everyone of them has a plan. They always have a plan to fix all our ails, don't they? Funny that when they get elected, the plans never materialize or if they do, they fail to work the way they were intended to. I have always felt that if you have a plan that is going to help keep our Country and Her citizens on an even keel, why wait to be elected to public office? Share it with us, pass it on to those who can implement it and if it works who cares who gets the credit for it? Isn't that what Public Service is all about, helping the public? I'm beginning to think it's more about helping themselves, with the public just an afterthought. Does that mean I won't vote? Absolutely not, when the primaries are held this month I'll be right there, trying to pick the best of the lot, hoping I can figure out who is more interested in helping the country instead of helping themselves. So, I'm paying attention to what everyone is saying and trying to sift the wheat from the chaff. It's down to two. Don't forget to vote!

People definitely need to get out there and vote. Be a part of the solution! As a resident of the state of Massachusetts I cannot recommend anyone to vote for Romney regardless of party. His Health Care Plan sucks! What he did here is a disaster.

It is tempting not to vote because I personally believe all politicians are crooked...

But then I also know the importance of it and am paying close attention to what they say...

Not to what the preachers are saying in the pulpit or even to my dear Hubby who is very opininated.

Good post! I agree with you. I know I was taking a medicine that my insurance company decided not to pay for anymore and then it was going to cost me $160.00 a month for it. Thank God my doctor found an alternative for me but can imagine someone on a tight pension and they really needed the meds. It makes you crazy.

I totally agree... nothing upsets me more than seeing people who were born and raised in this country and have lived here all their lives unable to get much needed medical attention .... I could say more but I will quit while I am ahead and still have friends

I am also getting sick of the race card being called all the time too...

Why cant we just get down to brass tacks... enough already with who is saying what about who...keep this on a level of intelligence based on the issues... and nothing else

Hi Sandi, great thought provoking post....well we are reading all about your Presidential Race over here in Aus, it's in our papers everyday. Whilst we are not au fait with the working of your Government being a different political system, we certainly have in common the issues, like the constant battles with the Budget esp the Health Budget, long waiting times for surgery, lack of beds, hospital closures, expensive health care the cost of which rises every month it seems. Thess politicans elected by US the people should listen to US the people! Whys it is alwasy Health and Education that suffers? Voting is compulsory over 18 in Aus, no two ways about it you get a fine if you don't vote but we surely understand the whole thing can drive you to drink, as Kat so nicely put it LOL !! We keep watch with interest. Keep well hon, and Mac too!!! Jenn and Jacqui

Well...said...Sandi...I applaud you...especially on first "getting out" and voting...but also the comment on public service...I agree if someone in their job as public servants has a great idea that can benefit the people of this great land...why oh why?? do they wait to make these promises until it may do them some good, instead! Egos baby...that's all I can think of...actually you have to admit whether you like a candidate or not...that most of them hold themselves in very "high" regard. Doncha think?? I mean I guess you have to with all the mud-slinging going on...but seriously ego/pride whatever you want to call it...can be a hinderance to the average American when it comes to our politicians!

I'm going to join Kat...I may well go through many a drink during this election...and quite possibly afterwards, too!

Blessings...
