The Thanksgiving Challenge Post 19: Thankful for Miranda

The month is winding down now. We're more than half way through November and Thanksgiving is only a week away. I'll start baking pies (pumpkin and lemon meringue ) and cakes ( Angel Food and Devils Food) this weekend so that my oven can be free for the turkey that will need a couple of hours to roast. The sweets will reside in the pantry deep undercover and hidden from a certain Sailor's sight...(he's been known to devour a Lemon Meringue in one sitting.) On the big day, while the turkey "rests" from its roasting, my cornbread dressing will bake. I will bake the cornbread on Saturday, so it can be properly "stale" for the event. The cranberry sauce will chill in the fridge and the yams will be waiting their turn in the oven. The green bean casserole will jockey for position with the succotash. Mac will have his longed for beets and and the meal that will have taken me all week to prepare, will be demolished in a little under thirty minutes. And for the DILS and granddaughter that will put dishes in the dishwasher, leftovers in the fridge, or bag up to take home, (thus leaving me to put my feet up) I will be very very grateful.

As for today, I'm grateful for a decent hair cut. Thank you Miranda darlin'.

Sounds like a great Thanksgiving plan. I know you will enjoy. I have been highlighting my followers, as you probably know, during my birthday month. You are up tomorrow. Nov. 29th. Stop by and share a piece of Italian Creme Cake.

Sounds yummy, organized and enjoyable. And, sounds like some of the things I'll be doing, maybe not so organized, but doing, all the same. And, I got my hair cut today too. Nice when it's not too short and not so shaggy. :) Jenn

It sounds delicious. I can not stand the idea of anyone being alone and not eating a meal. We are feeding 24 as of last count.

We just bought new appliances tonight because my stove does not bake at the right temp. We have tried to adjust for the difference. I could not take the chance and ruin our meal. I think I will do a gratitude post on my new appliances.

If you only new how much I hate the ones that came with our house.

It is amazing how fast dinner disappears compared to how long it takes to prepare it.

I love the holiday preparations.;) I really miss Thanksgiving.;)
Ah yes, hair cuts are important. I have had only three in my life and I hated them all. So believe it or not, I have not had my hair cut in about 5 years now.;) And I am very happy.;)
You actually did mean a hair cut right(?); as no one seems to comment on the one thing you are thankful for today.;)

Very well organized Sandi and you even had a hair cut! I would love to say my cooking will be as neatly organized as yours, but that would be a lie. I have the menu planned and a friend will be bring the pies, but I'll need help with that darn old turkey 'cuz this muscle spasm in my back wants to attend Thanksgiving dinner too.
Darn!

Never underestimate the power of a good haircut. Reminds me of THREE Thanksgivings ago...

I had been growing my hair out a bit, but it needed a little attention for the big Thanksgiving get-together. My wonderful stylist had moved on and I didn't know where to go for a tweak. I procrastinated too long finding a salon so in desperation took a chance as a walk-in to wherever I could get in. Big mistake. I ended up HATING my haircut (and I never hate haircuts because in the general scheme of things, it's not that big a deal - wait a few weeks and it's ready to be cut again); not to mention I had to pay $60 for it. I vowed right then and there not to cut my hair again, unless and until I found a new stylist who actually understood the English language as I speak it (not some funky salon derivative) and who could give me the cut I wanted. Never happened. My hair grew and grew and grew. It ended up being LONG, and I never wear my hair long. I was kind of enjoying it tho... until my strict dieting made it start to all fall out! All things being equal, I now realize a bad haircut for Thanksgiving is probably preferred over no hair for Thanksgiving. The difference three years makes, eh?

But getting back to you...

Sounds like you have a lot on your plate this Thanksgiving (get it.. plate?), yet you have all the to-do's so perfectly planned and orchestrated that I have no doubt it will be a resounding success. In fact, I wouldn't mind an invite. Pretty please? I promise to leave my Bitch Bell at home. :0)

Thanks for making my mouth water now and I'll be yearning for a lemon meringue pie for who knows how long!
Sunday -I get to help bag up the groceries our women's group at church purchased to go along with the turkeys we will be delivering come Monday. (I get to help deliver the stuff too and am really looking forward to doing that!)
Gotta get my turkey to thawing come Monday evening and do some baking then Tuesday and Wednesday -along with the blogging, facebook and of course, embroidery that is, as always now, an ongoing thing in my life. And the haircut -kind of tempting there for me to go get mine chopped off. I've been experimenting with letting it grow. Haven't had it this long in several years now and not sure how long this length will last.

Oh yum.. that all sounds so delicious. It makes me wish that our Canadian Thanksgiving was still to come. Alas, it was last month and leftovers are long gone.

Sandi, You are the first person I have ever heard say that the cornbread has to be stale for the stuffing. I have told people that and they never ask but do give me a quizzical look. But my Mom told me I had to make the cornbread a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving to be stale. Sooo...that's what I do. I made mine two weeks ago one nite after supper and froze it. I will unfreeze it Wednesday nite since I don't make the stuffing until the big feast day. I only bought a turkey breast this year...no giblets, so I had to buy extra chicken livers yesterday. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving day and holiday. xo Lynn
