If there are no Ambulances or Helocoptors...It's a good day

I've been a bit concerned about Mac lately. He's not up to sparring speed. Usually so fast with the humorous comeback or stinging retort, he's been letting me get the best of him just a little too much lately. He seemed tired. And pale. Of course being the loving wife I set him up. I mean, I set up an appointment with Dr. Moyd. We love our doctor because he is like an old fashioned doctor of a bygone era. He does not treat us like sides of beef to prod and poke, first he listens. He listens with his ears, then he listens with his stethoscope. Of course I have to poke and prod Mac to get him to tell our wonderous Doc Moyd exactly what is bothering him. So we go in and Doc Moyd's little nurse sticks one of those oxygen monitoring gizmo's onto his finger first thing. And gets a little shocky when the reading is 85. Had I been in the room at the time, I would have gone more than a little shocky, I'd have been having a screaming mimi fit. (Not you, Mima) . That's nigh onto intubation level. Doc Moyd, being a trifle concerned, too (tho not on the levels that Lisa, his nurse, and I were.) He ordered all kinds of blood tests, listened to heart and lungs, declared said lungs clear (no wheezing) and set him up with an appointment with his Cardiologist and his Gastroenterologist. Because other than the fact that he feels tired, run down (like, by a truck) and gets shortness of breath, he declares he feels fine. Well fine, you're still going to see this fullhouse of doctors and then we'll see what we shall see. So last week we saw the Gastro man. He says that while liver enzymes are up a bit, well, not so much to worry about, but while you're here how about setting up an appointment for your colonoscopy? Then it's off to Dr. Grainger, our angel of a Cardiologist who upon noting that his blood pressure was a bit high decides that he is going to have his stress test a couple of months early. Just to get it out of the way, you understand. That was yesterday. My darling Mac told me in no uncertain terms that he was not having anything run up him, over him or in him. He'd have the stupid stress test, but the first person to mention angioplasty, stents or pacemakers would get a flat no. (Can I get an Amen?) I'm nodding, yes dear, of course dear all the time working it out in my head how I was going to work around that problem. So today we went for the stress test. While he was busy on the treadmill and getting pictures done and ultrasounds of his carotids, I went to Lowe's. It was just across the street from Dr. Grainger's place so I figured that if I heard any helocoptors approaching the pad, or Ambulance sirens headed our way, I could get back in a hurry. You see, both of us have had the helocoptor/ambulance experience...both times the weather was too bad for the coptor's to fly (thank you God, I knew you'd come through) but the ambulances worked just fine. So I get back to the clinic and no coptors, no ambulances. Mac is sitting in the waiting room, waiting for one more round of pictures before we can head home. Noting that I had been to Lowes, and knowing that I prefer it to WalMart's, he casually mentioned that maybe he should go out and look in the bed of the truck first, thinking it might make a difference in his stress test. (Hmm, he's beginning to sound like his old self). I patted his hand, telling him "no no honey, I don't think you want to do that. It'll just be my little surprise." It's now 11:30 pm. No coptors, no ambulances ever made an appearance. No Doctors ever poked a head out saying "might I have a word?" So...the man's got the heart of a lion. A lion who needs a nap .

May all end up well!
My teenager's been complaing lately about being tired. Me all worried. Turns out it's pollen time! We forget about her allergy each and every year.

Ooh! Sandi, did the cardiologist determine any more tests necessary? That low oxygen can be really worrisome. Prayers for you and Mac are flying upward and a big hug and energy are going your way. Maybe I should send Mac energy too.

Thanks for stopping by to say good night at my place. You're a love.

Hugs! Hope! and Peace!

Sounds as if life has been a titch stressful with all this concern and now all these tests.

My confidence is with you, Sandi, and your ability to get Mac to come around to whatever must be come around to, which I hope does not involve much.

It's the 21st Century and life is grand and there's so much more to enjoy!

Give your man a few extra hugs from your blogging buds who care from afar. Gentle hugs for you, too, my dear Sandi.

Good girl! Those men won't 'give in' when they should. Good girl! You set up the appointments.

Wheeee... Thalium stress test. Such fun. Not!

And for Pete's sakes Mac ~ don't be such a whimp about the Gastro stuff. I've had numerous look-down's and look-up's. You have an IV drip of valium or something and you do NOT know a thing! You are awake, they start the IV drip, you are awake again... and EVERYTHING is all over! Piece of cake!

Tell him 71 year old Mari-Nanci is a pro at all this stuff, and that will *shame* him into it! LOL! -evil giggggles- -ducking, running and hiding-

Hi, Sandi, thanks for stopping by on the grocery post! And how great that you have a garden. My 80 year old parents still have a huge garden (I think that's what keeps them going!) and I get canned & fresh from them as much as possible. We grew tomatoes & herbs last year, but I think we need to do more here in AL.

Hope you & your family have a wonderful Easter!

They're stubborn, aren't they? My husband is the same way about doctors.

Sending good thoughts that all is well, and will remain that way.

David missed his medical calling, though. That's some good doctoring...

Thanks for stopping by, and for your comment!

It's good to hear there were no ambulances or choppers!!

J isn't so bad as he used to be, about getting to the doctor and that sure takes a load off my mind.

Right now we're running here and there for tests of prostate. It seems there is a small spot, so he will go tomorrow for a talk with the doctor and c-scans and bone scans. The doctor says it does not look bad and can be taken care of...but still a worrisome thing. I am so thankful, he does behave himself. Years ago, he let chest pain go awhile and worked through the pain then finally decided to drive himself to urgent care, where he was promptly put in an ambulance and driven directly to the hospital. That was not the last time he took a ride in an ambulance. He's better about seeking med attention, these days. Of course I give him a good lecture now and then, too.

Sandi, you and Mac will be in my thoughts. I will be thinking anti-ambulance-and-helicopter thoughts.

Since I'm fresh out of all of this, you tell that Mac if he cares about you he won't do anything that causes you extra stress! If he won't do the right thing for himself, he better do it for you...we all just flat out told Mom that we weren't quite done with her yet, so she just better shape up and take good care of herself! ( Did that sound scarey enough??)

Take care of him and you.. ;)

Hi Sandi,

I was wondering where you've been. I'll keep you guys in my prayers. My hubby refuses to go to doctors also and I have to force him to go sometimes. Keep us informed and take care.

What was in the bed of the truck, btw?

Mac - it's a whole lot better to fix it BEFORE it's all broken down! Just sayin'!

Sandy ~ Me thinks it's NEVER a good sign to have a doctor ever poked a head out saying "might I have a word?" But telling me to get a colonoscopy is no day in the park either. But other than having to drink what seems that 12 gallons of that "clean you out stuff" (that tastes like salt water), at least you get to sleep though it! ~ jb///

LivingTheLife said...

Sandi,
Thankfully all tests are proving to be benign...but you tell Mac he must complete ALL tests...or you'll use the "convincing" device you bought at Lowes and hid in the back of the truck...I'm thinking some type of "vice" mechanism would do the trick...hey better a tube or needle than a vice grip...just sayin. OH! and tell Mac that whole colonoscopy thing is a breeze...you sleep through the entire thing...then you go home...and sleep some more...{but don't tell him he will be tired b/c he had to stay up late the night before b/c of the go-lighlty solutions you have to drink...however, there is nothing lightly about that stuff...just sayin~}

Hugs and prayers for you and Mac...I know he will be fine...and thankfully, you were there to give him great advice about seeing the docs.

If it makes you feel any better...everyone I know has been overly tired recently...I myself feel like someone just pulled the plug on all my energy...but I realized it is THAT time of year for me to be completely consumed by pollen, allergens and the like...

Blessings...
Teresa

Well it's good you are getting it checked out - that's always the best place to start. Here's hoping all will be okay!

Mac sounds like a tough feller.
If need be, you can convince him to have those body invading tests such as the roto rooter colonoscopy.
Tests can be life savers, so Mac better listen to his docs and to YOU!
Happy Easter to you both.
Enjoy a chocolate bunny or two!

Don't we worry about out little boys? You take care of him. I'm sure everything will be fine.

Ricky's been going through similar things. We kinda think it's because he's been working 16 hours a day and sleeping 5, though.

Oh my Sandi...I missed this and feel like a rotten friend. Prayers will be said dear heart.
Now, why oh why are men so stubborn? Bill did this to me a few years back.
He has learned now so that is a blessing...at least, I *think* he learned!
Mac!! You take care of yourself you hear?? If you don't I will give Sandi the word to let you have it!
YOU have to be around for a long, long, long time.

Love to you both...

Sue
