To all my friends on shore...

I really have to say thank you to all my pals who have been concerned about me and to tell you that I'm alive and kicking out here, but I did something really stupid...I allowed my blood sugar to climb without check on Christmas Eve and it's taken me this long to feel like sitting at the computer and trying to explain myself. When I say it was stupid, it really was...I needed my butt kicked and kicked it was. And let me tell you today, that small piece of rum cake that threw me wayyyyy over the top, was not worth it. Not one tiny sliver of it was worth what I put myself through! So, I'm back...and I'm about to go visit my friends and catch up and I'm not making a New Year's resolution here, they are made to be broken, I'm making myself a promise...I shall watch over my health with abandon! I will partake of fewer carbs and more proteins...MUCH fewer! I shall take Christmas Eve into my heart and eat sugar free Jello from now on...no more rum cake. Shame, that.

I want to thank you all for being concerned, you are truly my friends and I will be back with a genuine post soon!~

Sandi, I am so sorry that that danged old rum cake was so tempting and that it put you through the wringer. Some lessons are so hard learned. Here I thought that you were just taking some much-deserved time off and having yourself a blast.

Glad to see you back at the "pen" and glad that you are going to be radical about your health.

That rum cake will do it every time! I am glad to hear that you are feeling better.

Sandi, I wish you all that your heart desires in 2009. I am looking forward to visiting you here at Holding Patterns and maybe even in person :-).

Hey, I've been wondering where you were.
That song "Go Away Little Girl" sure brought back some memories. Funny, how hearing a song can transpose you to another place and time.
Living Well......a promise not a resolution. I like that. I, too, want to become healthy. I need an accountability partner. I'm sad that Darlene stopped Live Well Wednesdays.
Have a good day and take care.

Missed you, Sandi, so glad you are feeling better. JP is a diabetic and food is his reason d'etre. Long time since his last coma though, thank the gods. Scary for the watcher but must be dreadful for the patient.
Do take care and have a safe and happy new year.

Oh Thank God! When I didn't hear from you yesterday I thought you might have ended up flat on your back again or worse, in the hospital. I'm so glad to see this post!

My resolution post is up. JS gave me inspiration. But I like what you are doing, deciding to take care of yourself. That can be the start of a lot of new things. I see a connection here with something another friend wrote that I'd like to share. So would you please go and read this post by Susan Palwick?

Sorry that you had this blip with your health and I am sorry that I was not there for you when you needed people to notice your absence (because of my visitors I have not been quite so vigilant.)

I think it must be murder that you can't eat what you want at Christmas, but obviously you have had a terrible experience with that rum cake and it needs to thrown into the bin. I didn't know you were diabetic, Sandi.

Hope that the rest of this holiday time will go without incident and that the New Year will be kind to you. Take care.

Gosh Sandi, I'm so sorry. I just knew you were busy doing something really fun. And...when I saw this post title (To all my friends on shore...), I thought "oh, that's where she's been...on a cruise!". I sure wish I had been right! Take care of yourself. I, too, have abused my body over the Holidays, especially with sugar.

Happy New Year sweet friend!

Well, I certainly feel like a "bad" friend...I've been off and on so much with this blogging thing...I didn't realize you were sick...I just thought like everyone else...you were caught up in the holidays...busy. I hate that you had to have a run-in with the ole rum cake. I know from experience with my sweet hubbin...if you're gonna go up against sugar...the sugar will most likely win!

I look forward to a blissful and blessed 09' with you along for the ride...don't be thinking you can outsmart your body...ok! Just remember...there are tons of recipes for sugar-free...in fact I have a few...so let me know if you need any...but I DO NOT have a sugar free rum cake recipe...so let's stick to the NO RUM CAKE for any of us...ok!

Blessings...
Terea

Lee had told me about your holiday collision with the rum cake. That sounds so miserable, both the blood sugar incident and the ensuing self-kicking.
