I tried to change the channel. go outside to work in the yard, walk the dogs...anything to break the hold of the horror that this person had on my mind and heart. I always came back in and turned the channel back to Fox to get the latest update, to find out if it was over. And then it was. You would think that it would be anticlimactic but no. There was even more news about the shootings.... now we needed to know everything about this man (whose name I refuse to utter here after he held me hostage to a news channel all day yesterday September 16th 2013. Why give him even that little bit of honor?) We needed to know where he was born, what he did for a living who his parents were. Now the FBI wants anyone who knew him to contact them. Yeah, right...if I had known him I would not claim such. To have anyone such as he in our lives is not something to be proud of.
So last night as we watched yet more news about this person, the phone rang. When I answered I heard the sweetest voice saying "hi Grandma, what are you doing?" Suddenly the abysmal cloud of distress that had overpowered me for most of the day lifted and like magic was gone. Sometimes it takes the pure love of a child to make you see the world for what it is...a shifting shadow always fluid never stopping to consider your wants and wishes...all in all there is nothing to be gained by wailing that you have no control over your world. All of us need to take a deep breath and be thankful for what control we have over our own lives and let the devil take the hindmost...the hindmost being the mean and heartless among us.

Yep those sweet little voices can do so much to make the world right again.. Hi Grandma sounds so sweet!!
I was so sad for your country yesterday when I heard the newscast. I hope you are able to focus on that sweet little voice today.
I'll not add to your stress, dear Sandi, by spilling what, if I'd like to say, should be spilled in my own blog. I will just say that I hope that today feels brighter and, if not, call that grandgirlie again!
We need the innocnet to remind us that our world could be better.
We were burgled this week...and not content with theft they defiled and wrecked the whole house.
We were sick...not of course on the scale of that event which so affected you...but then neighbours came to help to clean, to repair, to keep an eye...we didn't know we knew so many kind people.
Sometimes we are bombarded with bad news that we can do nothing about.
There always seems to be some really bad person spoiling things for the majority.
Its good to hear from the grandchildren and things get back into perspective again.

So glad Ariannna called! I honestly don't know how I'd feel if someone I knew did something like that. Hope I'd figure out what to do if it did happen. Have a Blessed Day Sandi! Hugs!
There are indeed too many mean, twisted, sick individuals in the world who cause immeasurable damage and it's difficult to not get involved as events like this unfold. But Fox news seems to prey on that. I see them as part of the problem.
I try not to watch ongoing news reports. I know that the outcome will be the same whether I'm tuning in or not. I can catch up later if need be. It's a lot easier on the mind than allowing it to hold us captive all day. That decision is our own.. but I know how difficult it can be to walk away.
I'm glad your sweet one was able to take your mind to a much better place. Hugs to you.
Seems every time the TV is turned on, something Else happens.....
(((HUG)))
I so like your concluding comments. In the midst of horror...there is still sweetness. Grandchildren are the best!
I got the bad news yesterday that my dad's cancer has spread. The saddest day, I cried off and on and only did what was absolutely necessary ....... then my phone rang. "Hi Gramma, my mom said I should call you to cheer you up. You are on speaker, cause I am playing a video game, too." Had to laugh!
A child's voice can change even the darkest mood. :)
This country is going to hell in a handbasket, for many reasons. I do have to say that the company of children is almost always preferable to that of the so-called adults.
